Dr James Au

Principal Dentist

About James

James is aware that the majority of patients are uncomfortable in the dental chair so he strongly stands by his motto: ‘Care for your patients and perform dentistry on them, the way you would want it performed on yourself.’ That is why he established Victoria Street Dental with the aim of providing the highest quality care.

James graduated from the University of Otago and began his career in Wellington at various private practices accumulating an immense amount of experience including the widely known practice ‘Gentle Dental Centre’. Because of his passion for dentistry and the drive to provide high-quality care, he has since furthered his knowledge by attending countless continuing education courses worldwide.

James enjoys all facets of dentistry from simple single-tooth restoration to full mouth rehabilitation. He has a special interest in dental implant, gum graft, and orthodontic dentistry.
In his spare time, he enjoys staying active by playing soccer and going to the gym as well as indulging in a nice meal out.

Dr Emily Yeo

Associate Dentist

About Emily

Emily understands that dental treatment can be stressful for patients of all ages. Emily will ensure effective communication with all patients and their Whānau so that they feel comforted and supported at all times.

Emily graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery with Distinction from the University of Otago. She is interested in all aspects of dentistry ranging from restorative dentistry, all the way to oral surgery.  For those who are anxious, Emily is able to provide IV sedation for all treatments, including wisdom teeth surgery, gum grafts, and dental implants.

Emily is a certified Invisalign provider. She is dedicated to listening and addressing your aesthetic worries, ensuring your smile is restored to its fullest potential.

Outside of the clinic, Emily loves to play golf, skiing, and traveling. You will also find her staying active in a HIIT class at F45.


Dr Sarah Lee

Associate Dentist

About Sarah

Sarah is a dentist with firsthand experience as a former patient, and is committed to ensuring her patients feel the utmost comfort during their visits. Her vibrant and affable demeanor instantly sets patients at ease as they enter her care, fostering a welcoming environment.

With a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the University of Otago, Sarah is committed to delivering optimal treatment tailored to her patients’ individual needs. Sarah has a great interest in restorative dentistry and fixed prosthodontics, she derives immense satisfaction from witnessing patients leave her clinic with enhanced stability and confidence in their smiles. She places great importance on clear and comprehensive communication, ensuring patients feel well-informed and supported throughout their treatment journey.

Beyond dentistry, Sarah unwinds by playing the bass guitar, indulging in a good book, and maintaining an active lifestyle through activities like pilates and badminton.


Tia Yu

Oral Health Therapist

About Tia

Tia graduated from the University of Otago with a Bachelor of Oral Health in 2018. Since then, she’s worked in the Wairarapa and the Hutt.

She grew up dreading the dentist after having some extensive treatment done without numbing as a kid. Until today, she can still be quite anxious as a patient herself. Therefore she always takes time to listen to each patient’s needs. She wishes to help anxious patients overcome their fears and to have everyone in her dental chair leave happy and refreshed. Tia sees herself as an oral health coach, she deeply believes the power of prevention lies in not only reducing the cost of dentistry but also improvement of overall wellbeing.

Outside of work, Tia enjoys painting, building Lego, and exploring New Zealand nature with friends.

Jo Gell

Practice Manager

About Jo

Jo has over 20 years’ experience in the dental industry. She is a qualified dental assistant and has worked in a variety of roles from reception through to practice manager.

She enjoys working with people and is very customer-focused, ensuring patients’ needs are looked after with the utmost care and attention to detail. Combined with her excellent communication skills and incredible work ethics, Jo is a well-liked and integral member of the team at Victoria Street Dental.

Outside of work Jo enjoys going to the gym and spending time with her daughter.


Megan McAllister

Dental Assistant

About Megan

Megan is a highly experienced dental assistant who joined Victoria street Dental in hopes to provide quality care to patients. She enjoys all facets of dentistry especially wisdom teeth removal.

Megan is a patient-oriented professional, with a passion for helping patients feel comfortable and relaxed during dental procedures. She is knowledgeable in all aspects of dental care, including assisting dentists during various procedures, taking and developing X-rays, and educating patients on proper oral hygiene.

In Megan’s spare time, she enjoys reading, cooking, and long walks on the beach.
